Job profile of Assistant Station Master (ASM)

  • Job profile: ASM will be the in charge of running of trains at a station. He operates the signals, ensures that everything goes as per the rules laid out. He will be working in shifts. Big stations may have more than one ASM.

25%  of  the  vacancies in  the  category  of  Station  Masters  (GP 4200) will  be  filled  by  induction  of  Traffic  Apprentices  of  which  15%  will  be  from  the  open  market  through  the  Railway  Recruitment  Boards  and  10%  from  amongst  the  serving  (non-Ministerial)  graduates  through  limited  Departmental  Competitive  Examinations. (Ref 1)

Recruitment(Ref 1)

  • 60%  of vacancies will be filled by  direct  recruitment  through  Railway Recruitment Boards(RRB).
  • 15%  by  Limited  Departmental  Competitive  Examination(LDCE)  from  amongst  group  C  &  D  staff  of  Operating  and  Commercial  departments  with  an  upper  age  limit  of  45  years  (50  years  in  the  case  of  SC/ST)  and  qualification  of  Graduation  subject  to  the  condition  that  Group  D  staff  have  rendered  a  minimum  of  5  years  regular  Railway  Service.  Shortfall  in 15% LDCE  quota  may be made  good  by  direct  recruitment.
  • 25%  by  general  selection  from  amongst  employees  possessing  the  qualification  of  Matriculation  and  working  as  Shunting  Masters,  Cabinmen  I,  Switchmen,  Sr.  Signallers  and  Sr.  Train  Clerks  and  Leverman  Gr.I,  Pointsman  Gr.I,  Shuntman  Gr.I  Cabinman  Gr.II  and  Train  Clerks  with upper  age  limit  of  45  years  (50  years  in  the  case  of  SC/ST).  Shortfall against the  quota  may be made  good  by  direct  recruitment.
  • Qualification : Degree from recognized university or equivalent.
    Diploma in Rail Transport & Management, Transport Economics, Multimodal Transport (Containerization) awarded by Institute of Rail Transport, Rail Bhawan, New Delhi will be additional desirable qualification.  (Ref 1)
  • Selection Process : Written Examination (in two stages –preliminary and final) followed by Aptitude Test and Document Verification.

  • Other Allowances depend on various conditions and hence cant be stated uniformly. Other major allowances include :
    Transport Allowance

  • Deductions from salary include 10% of total Pay towards New Pension scheme.

My name is Abdul I have been selected for ASM under section nos 3/2012.But my question is If I want to go for Ticket Collector  post will I be able to transfer my post if yes than what is the procedure.And is ASM post is good as compare to TC.

I have been selected for ASM through CG appointment ...

I have completed  M.Com.. To achieve greater post what should i study now.

And how can i change my job profile through departmental exams. eg.- if want to go for control office or OS dept.

 

Sir, Is the job of ASM suitable for female candidates taking into account the night shifts, field work etc. ? Among the other Non Technical Popular Categories (NTPC) , which posts are suitable for female candidates??

Many lady ASMs are working in Railways. There will be night shifts and your station can be in isolated places. If you are ready to work under such conditions you can join. Commercial Apprentice, ECRC, Accounts Assist are better job for ladies.

I belongs to SC and today I just take the ASM Aptitude Test and answer 67.61%  except Aptitude Test section, where as  I answer 100% on Aptitude Test. What is my chance for the post?

I am Sukanta Mondal selected for the post of ASM belongs to the RRB KOLKATA board, want to know in railway dept is any night allowance, over time for ASM posst. And also want to know when the DA is 100% in this circumstances total salary for ASM will be what??? and work load of ASM is hard or easy?

My training session for initial ASM is due in april (chandausi).. i checked some ZRTI websites containing reading material.

can you tell me sir is there any difference between different zones transportation,

and how to prepare myself for training i.e. what to study before going there or what to revise.

Are there reading material in market for ASM. What part of maths is essential in ASM course.

I am in a government job and cleared the  ntpc exam  from chandigarh board . So my medical will be done by railways or through proper channel they will accept it as I already initimated my present employer?Pls help?

Hi Sir,

I have been selected in Bangalore division as ASM. Where will my training be held. Will it be in Bangalore City or Bangalore Cant. How many days will my training period be. Where will i be sent after the training.

hello Santosh i am also selected in Bangalore Division as ASM...can u please tell me where do u live...? am from Hyderabad..and i heard that training will be in Hubli for 108 days for south western railway employees...south western railways zones are Hubli,Bangalore and Mysore..and we will be sent in the Bangalore Division.

                  mera rrb jammu 3/2012 me asm k salection ho gaya hai  jiska final result 02 may 2014 me aagaya tha. per abhi tak medical ki koi date nahi ayee hai. medical or appointment me kitna time lagega.  or medical ka latter ayega ya phir kahe per jakar nikalwana padega. batane k karpa kare
