Permission to treat Attested Photocopy of RELHS card as a valid document

In terms of provisions contained in para 626(1) of Indian Railway Medical Manual, 2000, it is necessary to produce medical identity card for availing of facilities in Railway Hospitals.  It has been brought to the notice of Board that retired railway employees/their eligible family members find it difficult to avail of medical facilities when one of the family members moves out of station carrying RELHS card.

The issue has been considered by Board and the following has been decided:-

i)     for a short duration ( a period of 10 days):-  Attested copy of the medical identity card will be considered a valid document, for availing outdoor medical facilities at Railway Hospitals and Health Units.  However, in case of emergency, indoor treatment will be allowed on basis of attested photocopy of Medical Identity Card in Railway and private recognized hospitals but original medical identity cards will have to be produced within 15 days.

ii)    for long term duration:- The original medical card may be deposited with the issuing authority who may issue split medical identity card to the beneficiaries as requested by them.
