Railways Act, 1989

The Railways Act, 1989 replaces the existing Act of 1890. Each section of the centuries old Act has been reviewed, redundant sections deleted, new sections added and existing sections amended as necessary. The Railways Act, 1989 was intreoduced in Lok Sabha in 1986. The bill was referred to a Joint Select Committee of both houses. The Railways Bill 1989 after passing by both houses became an Act on July 1, 1990.
