Job profile of Assistant Station Master (ASM)

  • Job profile: ASM will be the in charge of running of trains at a station. He operates the signals, ensures that everything goes as per the rules laid out. He will be working in shifts. Big stations may have more than one ASM.
  • Career path :
    Assistant Station Master ->
    Station Master ->
    Station Supt. ->
    Assistant Operations Manager->
    Divisional Operations Manager ->
  • Qualification : Degree from recognized university or equivalent.
    Diploma in Rail Transport & Management, Transport Economics, Multimodal Transport (Containerization) awarded by Institute of Rail Transport, Rail Bhawan, New Delhi will be additional desirable qualification.
  • Selection Process : Written Examination (in two stages –preliminary and final) followed by Aptitude Test and Document Verification.
  • Salary and other perks

    5200 – 20200
    (ii)
    Grade Pay
    2800
    (iii)
    Initial Pay
    8560
    (iv)
    Total Pay (i) + (ii )

  • Other Allowances depend on various conditions and hence cant be stated uniformly. Other major allowances include :
    Transport Allowance
    House Rent Allowance(if not provided with quarters
  • Deductions from salary include 10% of total Pay towards New Pension scheme.

Questions will be of same standard. But in GDCE you have more chances as only departmental candidates appear.

No, you cant transfer to TC.

As u said sir that I can't transfer  from ASM to TC one of my uncle is SM in Kalyan he said to me that you can transfer to TC after 3 years by giving exam which are held in railway divivsion.Is It true sir.

TC is a post with lower salary. It wont be permitted. Exams are for promotion to higher grades.

I am working as ASM and my rests are frequently suspended being staff shortage in section and i am claiming overtime too. My HOER told me that i can claim Overtime and Compensatory Rest for my rest suspension. Is it right or wrong. Till date i have not claimed any CR for rest suspensions. If there are any guideline of Railway board please advise me or provide site name where should i search the clarification for the same.
