- Conducted by The Institution of Permanent Way Engineers
- One year Correspondence Course comprises of two semesters of 6 months each.
- Eligibility:
- Railway employees: High School/SSC or equivalent qualification with maths or science and having a minimum of 3 years experience over Railways or a Graduate with Maths or Science as one of the subjects in Intermediate/Plus 2 of SSC.
- Non-Railway persons: 3-years Diploma holder in any discipline of Engineering recognised by Central/State or UT Government or a Science/Engineering Graduate or a Graduate having had Maths or Science as one of the subjects in Intermediate/Plus 2 of S.S.C.

- Semester-II covers basic knowledge of Railway working in the field of Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering and specialized knowledge of Permanent Way Engineering, which includes Track structure, its Maintenance and Modernisation, Works, Bridge Engineering, Survery and construction of Railway Lines, Railway Sidings and Disaster Management.

Yes you can apply for ALP both departmental and RRB. In departmental competition will be less. You wont get any privilege in RRB. You can write Technician exam also.

No. It is not equivalen to 3
No. It is not equivalen to 3 year Diploma. It is recognised only by the Railway Board for employment purposes.
As per Railway Board instructions ASM, Traffic Apprentice exam you get priority f you pass IRT. It applies also to departmental candidates.

Departmental exam by promotion you can get even without Diploma. But if you want to appear GDCE to get quick promotion to JE you have to do Diploma.

You can study Transport
You can study Transport Economics or Multimodal Transport. None of them helps much in gettting Railway job as the selection is based mainly on RRB selection test outcome.
