Procedure of Group D Recruitment by Railway Recruitment Cell (RRC)

  • Railway Recruitment Cells (RRC) have been set up in all Zonal Headquarters for recruitment to Group D posts consequent to the announcement made in the Railway Budget 2005-06.
  • Each RRC would be headed by Chairman/RRC in JA grade or Selection grade.
  • The recruitment to all Group D posts of a particular Zonal Railway is now handled by RRC concerned.
  • Requirement of all Divisions/Workshops/Production Units and other organizations falling within the territorial jurisdiction of the Zonal Railway will be clubbed together for the purpose of recruitment.

Process of Recruitment

  • Vacancies shall be counted as those existing on 1st January or 1st July of the year of recruitment plus those anticipated over the next year.
  • A detailed Employment Notice will be published in leading local newspapers and an Indicative Notice be published in the Employment News/Rozgar Samachar and national newspapers giving reference of the advertisement given in the local newspapers.
  • A detailed vacancy notification shall also be sent to the nearby Employment Exchanges and recognized associations of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
  • Candidates can give option (maximum three) in order of preference for the Divisions/Workshops/Production Units/Other Organizations etc. within the territorial jurisdiction of the Zone.
  • If a combined examination is being held for more than one category of Group ‘D’ post then the candidate should can his preference for the posts also. No change of options shall be permitted at any stage subsequently.
  • Only one application should be submitted even if the candidate wishes to be considered for more than one category of posts

Minimum Educational qualification

  • Minimum educational qualification for recruitment of Group D posts will be 10th Pass or ITI or equivalent (Ref 6)

Selection procedure

  • Selection procedure will consist of written test followed by PET (Physical Efficiency Test) of candidates found successful in written test followed by Medical examination and Document Verification. (Ref 7) 

Written Test

  • Question paper for the Written Test shall be based on Class 10th standard consisting of 100 multiple choice objective type questions (with four choice of answers each) aimed to assess general knowledge/awareness, mathematics and reasoning etc. (Ref 12)
  • No question shall be asked for checking proficiency in language.
  • Question paper should be entirely objective and shall be printed in Hindi, English and regional language(s).
  • The duration of the Written Test shall be 90minutes. (Ref 12)
  • Written examination will be held on the same day simultaneously by all the railways. (Ref 6)
  • Question Paper will be set by Chairman/RRC and sent to Private Agencies (Specialized in confidential printing) for printing.
  • Duplicate type OMR sheets shall be procured from the printer (specialized in such printing) in which answers to questions are to be given by the candidates.
  • Question paper shall be printed with questions jumbled in four to five series.
  • Call letters for written test, physical efficiency test shall be dispatched under “Business Post (Ordinary)”, at least one month in advance. (Ref 13,14 ) Dispatch of letters to candidates in cases of document verification, medical/re-medical examination, Show-cause notice and intimation regarding submission of requisite documents will be sent by Registered Post/Speed Post.
  • Answer scripts shall be readable on Optical Mark Reader (OMR) and evaluation of answer scripts shall be on computers.
  • Result of Written Examination will be declared based on the Evaluation Agency’s Report and scrutiny of the records.  Minimum pass marks will be 40% for General candidates, 30% for SC/ST and OBC candidates. 
  • One mark shall be deducted for three wrong answers.
  • Result of written examination will be tabulated in the order of merit of candidates.

Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

  • Out of those who have obtained the prescribed minimum pass marks in the written test will be called for PET in order of merit separately for each group of General, SC, ST & OBC as follows:
  • If the number of vacancies is less than or equal to 1500  number of persons to be called for PET should be 4 times and if the number of vacancies is greater than 1500 the number of persons to be called for PET should be 3 times. (Ref 2)
  • Call letters will be issued to eligible candidates to appear in PET.
  • Physical Efficiency Test [PET] will be qualifying in nature and criterion for the same will be as under:

Male Candidates

 Female Candidates

Should be able to run for a distance of 1500 metres in 6 minute in one chance.

Should be able to run for a distance of 400 metres in 3 minutes in one chance.

  • The entire proceeding of PET will be videographed so as to ensure transparency and the identification of bonafide candidates taking part in  PET.
  • Physical Efficiency Test will be held in the Divisions of the concerned Railway.
  • PET will be supervised by Selection Committee of three Assistant Scale Officers nominated by DRM.

Document Verification

  • 20% candidates over & above the number of vacancies will be called for verification of the original educational/caste certificate(s) and other relevant documents of the candidates. (Ref 5)

Final Panel

  • Panels will be based strictly on merit position obtained in written examination(subject to qualifying PET and Medical Examination).
  • Currency of panel shall be for a period of two years from the date of publication.  General  Manager may, however, extend the life of the panel by one year in case of administrative exigencies. (Ref4 )
  • Panel finalized by RRC  [Railway Recruitment Cell] shall be equal to number of vacancies only.
  • In case certain number of candidates have not turned up within the specified period, another panel equal to the number of candidates finally not turned up will be supplied by RRC after following the procedure for cancellation of the offer of appointment to the originally empanelled candidates.  Under no circumstances, the number of candidates covered in the original as well as replacement panels shall exceed the number of the vacancies indented by the railway.
  • Replacement panels  shall include only such number of reserved /un-reserved candidates as have not the turned up as per original panel. (Ref 5)

Allotment of Division/Unit

  • Chairman/RRC shall allot each successful candidate the Division/Unit after taking into account his merit position and preference of Division/Unit etc.

Sir, I am selected for the post of group d in jagadhari worksop in rrcnr 02/2012. But at present I am not recevied any  letter from workshop.last week rrcnr told me that when the seat available they joining me and my all friend join as lucknow div., firojpur div. So please tell me how  many time they take join me.pls rply. Thanks.my id  [email protected]

i am santosh selected rrc group d who will send the appointment letters cpo office or divisions pls tell me sir i am very confused

respected sir,

                        i passed group d exam conducted by rrc chennai. i have been included in thiruvananthapuram divison group d list. i have been listed in engineering department. as i have shoulder dislocation problem i could not take hard work. is there any possibility to change into some other group d division like signal etc, where these much hard work is not needed. please reply immediately. your advice is very important for me
