Training of Railway employees

  • Indian Railways have 291 Training centers to impart training to different categories of railwaymen (See list of training centers of Indian Railways).
  • Every year 1 Lakh employees undergo Refresher courses. If the schedules are strictly adhered, it is estimated that 4 to 4.5 Lakh employees should undergo RC every year. 
  • Each Training Institute has to submit Annual performance report to Manpower Directorate of Railway Board. 

Job Profile of Traffic Apprentice(TA)

  • Traffic Apprentices are trained as a sort of multi skilled supervisors in the Transportation(Operations) branch.
  • 25  %  of  the  post  in  the  categories  of  Section  Controllers,  Station  Masters,  Yard  Masters  and  Traffic  Inspectors  in  Grade Pay 4200  will  be  filled  by  recruitment  as  Traffic  Apprentices. (Ref1)

Railway Staff College, Vadodara - Functions as the apex training institute for the officers of all departments in general and Accounts, Personnel, Stores, Traffic and Medical departments in particular.

Standards Description for different Medical classification

  • A-1 Physically fit in all respects. Visual Standards —Distance Vision: 6/6,6/6 without glasses. Near Vision: Sn: 0.6,0.6 without glasses (must clear fogging test) and must pass test for Colour Vision, Binocular Vision, Field of Vision & Night Vision.
  • A-2 Physically fit in all respects. Visual Standards—Distance vision: 6/9,6/9 without glasses. Near Vision: Sn: 0.6, 0.6 without glasses and must pass test for Colour Vision, Binocular Vision, Field of Vision & Night Vision.

Forwarding of Job Application of Railway staff

  • Railway employees seeking employment in private/public bodies or government departments or even other departments of Railways must submit their application through proper channel. Submit the application along with all the relevant details to the personnel officer concerned (DPO). 
  • Normally applications for shall be forwarded except in cases where it is not in the public interest to do so.

Job profile of SSE (Mechanical)

  • SSE Mechanical is a supervisor in Mechanical department of Railways. SSE can be posted either station or Production Units/Workshops.
  • In stations he is known as Chief Train Examiner.
  • He will be in charge of maintenance of trains. It is his duty to see that Goods wagons and passenger coaches are in good fettle and ready in time for train service as required by the operating personnel.
